Japan: Who Bears Final Responsibility and Liability

The workings of smart contracts have not yet been written into Japanese law, where there is no legal definition provided. Supplementary regulatory-compliant working definitions of smart contracts are also not supplied by organizations such as the JBA. Legal liability is currently an untested and unwritten area of Japanese law, and caution should be exercised by firms working with smart contract technologies.
