Argentina: Tax & Auditing Requirements

Argentina has enacted comprehensive tax reform which was effective on Jan 1, 2018. The corporate tax rate in Argentina is now 30% on profits from 2018-2019, and 25% on profits from 2020 onwards. There is a 21% Value-Added Tax on digital services in Argentina. A 7% withholding rate will be levied on withheld dividends from 2018-19, increasing to 13% in 2020.

Argentina taxes cryptocurrencies as securities under the current law. Income derived from foreign-currency denominated financial Instruments are taxed at a 15% rate, and gains from trading in digital currencies are also taxed at the 15% rate under the new law.

There are certain tax credits available in Argentina for research or technological innovation. Argentine companies may obtain a “tax credit certificate” of up to the lower of 10% or ARS 5 million of certain eligible expenditures in research, development or innovation. (Source). In addition, “self-employed persons who perform independent activities will be entitled to a special deduction by 100% and 150% for new professionals and new entrepreneurs in accordance with the regulation.” (Source).
